Content is Not Just Royalty.

It’s the Entire Kingdom!

I’m a sucker for great movies. I love a good explosive-filled, fight scene-packed, shoot ‘em up action film. But I also really enjoy a good ol’ laugh out loud, tearjerking romantic comedy.
Quite frankly, I even truly like those animated
Disney movies. I am talking about the old-school animation ones like Fantasia, or the Lion King. Remember Bambi? Yeah, me too.
I have to admit, I even like a sappy flick.
Pixar has come up with some good ones like Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Cars, or the granddaddy of them all, Toy Story.
Or how about Shrek. I like that no-filter, chip on his shoulder, green curmudgeon. My wife says he’s a little like me. Ha, the joke’s on her. Shreck
was made in my image!

I bet I’m not the only one who has a healthy addiction to movies. But, what is it that attracts us to movies, TV shows, musicals, and dare I even mention documentaries?
It’s the story. The hero’s journey, the fight for the almost unattainable. We root for the little guy, the common, average Joe. The girl next door like, Annie Porter, from the movie Speed, played by
Sandra Bullock, or the guy who loses everything, even his family, and in the end becomes the hero, like Conan the Barbarian.
We feel for those characters, what they’re going through. We relate with their struggles, their sorrows, and happiness. We live vicariously through their adventures.

It’s been said that in movies, the story is king. Everything else, like special effects, sound, lights, even the theater experience itself is all for the sake of the story.
Well, without watering it down too much, we have to remember that as great as a story is, it’s nothing more than great content. It’s information that is given to the audience in a way that’s relatable and easy to consume. It makes you laugh, cry, it can get you frustrated, happy, and sometimes even confused. But at the end of the day, it’s still content.

In today’s marketing climate, content isn’t just royalty, it’s the entire kingdom.
You can no longer afford to simply put out information about your product or service. Your business can’t rely only on the great attributes of your offerings. Your marketing must be made up of great content. It has to provide your audience with an overwhelming amount of added value. Your business can’t be satisfied with simply uploading information on the Internet and hope someone will find it, consume it, and spread the word. That just doesn’t work anymore. With all the overwhelming amount of content out there, your message runs the risk of getting lost or drowned in all that white noise.

Creating good content has become essential for every business, it has to be content that is thought-provoking, engaging and, sometimes it may even be a little shocking.

Creating attention-grabbing content can be intimidating, believe me I know.

When I began learning about content marketing, a few thoughts came to mind. “Do I have anything good or important to share with other people?“ “What do I talk about?” “I’m not a writer and I don’t have time to take a writing course.” “What if people don’t like my content?”
I had all kinds of doubts and questions.

I have happily discovered over time, that I do have a unique take on what I choose to share with my audience. I’ve also realized that people actually like and enjoy what I have to say. I have learned to be myself, share with honesty and transparency. I’ve also acquired my own particular writing style, which I am still developing. I’m finding my own voice in the vastness valley of content wilderness 😉

I wanna encourage you to begin sharing your unique perspective. Begin telling your own story. Start writing a blog, or record your very own podcast. Use your smartphone to create a vlog or broadcast on Facebook live.
Right now, there is a great number of ways to get your message across.

In later posts, I’ll be giving you some tips on creating great content, which adds value, builds relationships with your audience, and tells your story in a compelling way.
